Pro. Peng graduated from Fudan University in 1982 and received his master's and doctoral degrees in Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1984 and 1987 respectively. And he studied as post doctor from January 1990 to September 1991 at the Australian National University and the University of Sydney. From 1997 to 2002, he worked as a senior lecturer in the University of New South Wales, Australia; From 2002 to 2008, he worked as associate professor in the University of New South Wales, Australia; Since 2009, he has been working as a professor the University of New South Wales in Australia.
Prof. Peng’s research is focused on the optical fiber field involving many research topics, including optical fiber communication system, optical fiber sensing system, design and manufacturing of quartz glass fiber, theory, design and manufacture of functional fiber optic components, research of the development and related properties of polymer optical fiber, etc. On the field, he has presided dozens of national scientific research and development projects with research funds more than $ Australia 6 million. He has written 11 chapters of monographs, published 148 dissertations on international academic journals and 166 conference articles, 110 of which have been included in SCI and referred to for over 900 times with the H index factor 14. He has been specially invited to give report in the international academic conference for 28 times and has supervised 20 overseas PhD students. In 1992, Dr Peng became the first Chinese scholar who won the “Elizabeth II Fellowship Award” issued by the Science Fund Committee of Australia.
